Neal Smith Parnell, 40, of Kernersville, North Carolina, passed away at his home on October 6, 2026, leaving behind his wife, two young daughters, parents, extended family and many friends. His death has brought sadness to the community where he grew up and built his life. As family members and friends come to terms with the loss, they are remembering a man whose kindness, loyalty and commitment to others shaped the relationships he built over the years.

Born on August 6, 1986, in Forsyth County, Neal grew up in the Kernersville area and remained closely connected to his community. He attended Glenn High School before earning his bachelor’s degree at Appalachian State University and a master’s degree at UNC Greensboro. His early years also included a memorable achievement as part of the 1999 Kernersville Little League All-Star team, which finished second in the Southeast Little League World Series.

Neal built his professional career at Piedmont Federal Bank, joining the organization in 2009. He believed in helping people navigate their financial goals and took pride in serving customers with care and professionalism. Tributes shared following his death also describe him as a supportive leader and mentor who encouraged others, helped them grow and made a lasting impression on colleagues through his generosity and guidance.

Beyond his work, Neal devoted time to community service and local organizations. He was an active member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and its Upper Room Sunday School Class, and he served with several community groups, including Korner’s Folly, the Beeson Crossroads Fire Department, the YMCA and the Kernersville Foundation. Above all, his family was central to his life. His wife of 16 years, Lindsey, and their daughters, Blakely and Smith, were among those closest to him, and he shared with his children his love of farming, hunting and the lessons he hoped they would carry into adulthood.

Neal’s passing leaves a profound absence for those who knew and loved him. His family, friends, colleagues and community members will continue to remember his generosity, faith and willingness to lift others up. A service celebrating his life is scheduled for October 12 at The Crossing Church’s North Main Campus in Kernersville, with visitation on October 11. As loved ones gather to honour his memory, may they find comfort in the time they shared with Neal and strength in the support of the community he served so faithfully.
